Xiaomi is set to host a press meet in the Nation Capital on February 14 to launch company’s first 2018 product. Most likely, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer may launch the Redmi Note 5 or maybe the Redmi 5 or the Redmi 5 Plus — which already made it to its home market last year. Whichever Redmi 5 lineup device it may launch, the product will be exclusive to Flipkart, confirmed the e-commerce giant via a dedicated page for the upcoming smartphone on Thursday.

Xiaomi India has been teasing the upcoming handset for quite a while now. Although the company, so far, hasn’t revealed which Redmi 5 lineup phone it plans to launch in the country, the chances of it being the Redmi Note 5 are high. Why Redmi Note 5 — is because the JavaScript code managing the countdown timer on Xiaomi’s website shows a subdirectory titled ‘redminote5’.

Not just that, the meta description of the Xiaomi India Feb 14 event page reads as follows — “Presenting the all-rounder #GiveMe5.” So far, the Redmi Note 4 which was launched only last year around January — has undisputedly been the company’s all-rounder device, and it’s only befitting that its successor would take the legacy forward — which surely would be the Redmi Note 5.

There are more hints coming is now. Going by the dedicated Redmi Note 5 page that Flipkart has created, Xiaomi India notes 5 ways to describe the upcoming smartphone — “Made it to the top” “was quite a star” “was a super seller” “gave you more” “takes it sky high”. These excerpts directly or indirectly hint at the successor of the Redmi Note 4 — which was the most popular and sold phone — as by the company. So, without naming the phone, the teaser further suggests that it will indeed be the Redmi Note 5.

It is noteworthy, while Flipkart is likely to be the exclusive online platform for the upcoming phone, Xiaomi could also make the Redmi Note 5 available offline as well via the company’s very own Mi Homes. We say this, as the company, after ruling the online retail space, is gearing up grow its offline presence as well. On account of growing its offline business, Xiaomi has launched several Mi Homes across the country, and has plans to introduce more such stores in the days to come.

If at all Xiaomi launches the Redmi Note 5 in India on Feb 14, it would entail in a global launch. We have seen the smartphone subjected to several leaks and rumours previously. A new batch of renders of the alleged Redmi Note 5 recently hit the internet showing off the Redmi Note 4 successor in all its glory.

The renders suggest that the Redmi Note 5 may come with a full-metal body and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, much like what we had seen on the Redmi Note 4. However, unlike the Redmi Note 4, the successor device may come with a 5.99-inch 18:9 display on the front and dual cameras including 16-megapixel sensor and another 5-megapixel sensor on the back. Additionally, the smartphone is expected to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor clubbed with up to 4GB of RAM and up to 64GB storage. We may see the device launch with Android Nougat-based MIUI 9, however, may upgrade to Oreo in the forthcoming days. The smartphone, as rumours suggest may be fueled by a 4,100mAh battery and come in three colours, including — gray, black and blue.
