WhatsAppforJioPhonenow seems imminent. After nearly an year of incoming reports on company working WhatsApp support for KaiOS, a Linux-based OS that runs on JioPhone and similar non-touch phones, the company has finally hinted in its latest beta update for Windows that it will soon support KaiOS.
The news comes from WhatsApp’s fan site WaBetaInfo. ” Important references about the development of a new native KaiOS app had been found in the latest WhatsApp beta for Windows Phone 2.18.38, indicating the presence of a new platform that can be connected to WhatsApp servers,” states the report. However, no mention of WhatsApp was made by KaiOSTechnologiesduring MWC 2018.
KaiOS is seen on entry-level phones and JioPhone is currently the most popular phone to run this OS. The phone sells for Rs 1500 in India and is effectively free. The Rs 1500 amount is taken assecuritydeposit which is refunded after 3 years.
Facebookrecently extended its support for KaiOS. JioPhone users can now use Facebook app on their phones. The app has been optimised to support JioPhone. The app presently offers support push notifications, video, and external links. The app also supports JioPhone cursor for its News feed and photos.
WhatsApp is one of the most highly awaited feature on JioPhone. The app is available for Nokia S40 that runs Symbian OS but will pull its plug on OS by the end of this year. Instead, it will support KaiOS.
