During the last year, we saw a couple of accusations growing against Huawei. The major part came alleging that the company is shipping phones with pre-installed backdoors that collect confidential information from consumers and corporations, in multiple countries, to send it to its Chinese homeland.
The great accuser has been the United States, that in the recent months moved earth and skies to make its allies drop support for the Chinese giant. The Uncle Sam recently recommended some of its allies to not use Huawei’s 5G equipment, alleging that the company represents a national security threat. Countries like Australia decided to follow US direction against the company. This movement resulted in prisons of Huawei’s CFO in Canada and two employees in Poland.
A report from Financial Times, reveals that Huawei’s founder Ren Zhengfei has denied that the company spies on behalf of the Chinese government. The paper quote also reveals that Huawei never intended and also has never been asked to provide improper information to any government. He also adds that there are no laws in China, requiring Huawei or other manufacturers to install backdoors on its phones or network equipments.
“I STILL LOVE MY COUNTRY, I SUPPORT THE COMMUNIST PARTY, BUT I WILL NEVER DO ANYTHING TO HARM ANY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD”
-Ren Zhengfei, founder, Huawei
The executive states that his company will surpass this problematic period by focusing on countries where Huawei is welcomed. According to him, the company has given up trying to clear its name on the United States, and instead, will force its presence in other regions. According to Mr.Zhengfei the company already made 30 contracts to build 5G networks in multiple countries.
